The position the New Zealand wine industry holds on the global stage is indeed a fascinating case study in maintaining value throughout the supply chain. Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is unique both viticulturally and oenologically both with its capacity to crop at levels that would be deemed commercial in virtually all new world cool climates and still produce an ultra-premium aromatic white table wine with a distinct aromatic profile and massive consumer appeal that is arguably un-substitutable in style. Given this variety represents upwards of 80% of the annual New Zealand crush and is grown in a small geographic area rapidly running out of suitable land for new plantings and winery capacity suggests the future will continue to be one of value.
With dominance of this one varietal the seasonal variation obviously has a significant impact on the supply demand balance. This was well demonstrated with the most recent 2017 harvest season which with a compressed window of picking and greater disease pressure due to some unseasonal rain events has created a slight shortfall of supply in the immediate term.
Established in 1997, New Zealand Wineries is the industry’s only independent contract processing (also known as contract crush) and commercial winemaking company located in the middle of the Marlborough region. With many highly recognisable clients ranging from multinational corporate to small boutique in size, New Zealand Wineries has both the specialist knowledge and technical capability gained over the exponential growth of the Kiwi industry over the past 20 years.
New Zealand Wineries has the capability to provide short to long term bespoke winemaking services that are individually designed to fit within clients commercial and technical requirementsp
With a strong company culture focussed on enhancing long term value for all stakeholders, New Zealand Wineries is exceptionally well placed to continue its service to the industry in line with the growth expectations.
